In his book “Zorba the Greek,” Nikos Kazantzakis, describes a serene morning walk at the beach followed by a climb to the mountain to find solitude. At the top he briefly sleeps and has a dream that startles him awake, filling him with anxiety. Overwhelmed, he rushes down the mountain, seeking signs and answers to understand his dream.
This scene resonates with how I felt when the Generative API hype hit in December 2022. My my initial excitement about the new possibilities was quickly followed by a deeper quest for understanding. At that time, I had just finished developing a viewpoint on the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regulation. Naturally, I tested this new tool against my work (after asking for dad jokes with circus cats, of course). To my surprise, ChatGPT was about 70% accurate, and its confident delivery made me trust the remaining 30%. It felt like speaking with a junior but eager consultant!
Impact of innovation on cybersecurity
Securing information, systems, and people would never be the same. This realization hit me hard, and I started looking for information in articles, podcasts, and reports, only to find that answers weren’t there yet. The convergence of AI with other innovative technologies like Blockchain and Postquantum Computing opens up new horizons that demand a fresh loojk at cybersecurity. This is how the idea for this blog was born. Even though we are nearly two years and many AI models ahead, there’s still much to discuss about AI application to cybersecurity, and vice versa, how innovation can be secured.
New era for cybersecurity
AI has been around long before the recent buzz, with machine learning being a staple in academia and industry for decades. What’s astonishing is the proliferation of this technology and how it has evolved to allow direct, human-like interactions. This shift means we need to rethink our approach to cybersecurity. While innovations from well known brands have paved the way, the real challenge lies in utilizing the recent advancements securely and effectively.
